The Glorious Fourth of July
Declaration of
Independence
The Declaration of Independence is a document in which the
13 American colonies declare themselves independent of the Kingdom of Great Britain
and explain their justifications for doing so. It was ratified by the
Continental Congress on July 4, 1776; which is why this date is celebrated as
Independence Day in the United States. The original copy is still
on display to the public in the National Archives in Washington, DC.
Fourth of July Customs
Independence Day, as the only holiday celebrating the United States of
America as a whole,
is a national holiday marked by patriotic displays. Many politicians make it
a point on this day to appear at a public event to praise the nation's
